Sonnet For —–

I think I owe you an apology,
because I hid behind my phone instead
of facing you in person when I said
I need to take a break. Because you see,
I was afraid that coming in would be
too difficult, that I might say instead
I didn’t want to leave. That’s just my head
(or you would say, another part of me).
So now you understand that’s why I called:
because when I am there, I feel enthralled
somehow, and like I’ll never break away!
But it’s enough. You know we’ve reached our end,
I finally know you cannot be my friend –
I’m stepping out, to make a brand new day.
