after Robert Frost, from ‘The Secret Sits’ in A Witness Tree 1942. “But the Secret sits in the middle and knows”
So many I have kept from you; but
there’s only one that really mattered. The
last time we met, I still held this Secret
close to my heart. And now it sits,
a heavy, mournful, unyielding stone in
my heart – waiting patiently for the
right time – yet, now finding myself in the middle
of this separation, there exists no closure and
there will never be anybody but me, who knows.
